BeatMyBox

Beatbox Learning App

Designing a game app that teaches how to beatbox.

Background

As for my experience, Beatboxing requires persistence and encouragement. Therefore, I designed an app to help teach beatbox.

My Role

Pain points

• Feedback- No way of knowing how to get better
• improvement- Hard time developing new skills
• Diligence- Must practice to get better

Therefore, I set a goal to design a game app to develop beatboxing abilities by practice and improve that skill and get feedback.

Solution

This is BeatMyBox!

To help beatboxers to improve their skills, I designed an app where the users can watch video lessons and complete tests based on the ability to keep up with the required pace and accuracy to unlock harder lessons.

interviews

Survey

I conducted a survey to gather insights from the beatboxing community. However, getting responses was challenging, so I requested from the users the fill out the survey individually.

Conclusions and insights

General
• The user interface should be comfortable and inviting.
• Convenient to operate and use.

Gamification
• Gamification triggers real, powerful human emotions, like Happiness, Intrigue, Excitement etc.
• Short and clear lessons, the guide should speak clearly and ethically.

Lessons & Tests
• The target audience does not have much tolerance for lessons.
• The program should understand the beatbox sounds and rhymes.
